If the characters are holed up in a store with the windows boarded, they aren't under immediate threat and can afford to wind down for a bit as they organize and get their bearings. The zombies are stupid and have poor awareness and attention-span. That happens when the zombies are unaware of the characters, and they're holed up and in hiding. 'My problem was always being in a situation where zombies are everywhere.' It's about playing the story, for the story. I like the story, and the story development and events are what keep it fresh as a QTE point-and-click. The game is glitchy and the presentation quality is a bit underwhelming in several areas, but I was drawn in over the course of the episodes as the events became more exciting and intruiging and the characters became more interesting. Turns out, I was actually pleasantly surprised by it and I liked it enough to read all the comics up to the current issue. I have to admit the gameplay can be a little too simplistic and the choices are usually far too shallow when you look beneath the illusion the game is creating, both of which are things I hoped Season 2 would fix but judging by the first episode (haven't played this one yet) they haven't. The thing that made me get past that dumb thought was the fact that the writing is some of the best I've seen in a game and probably the best I've seen in any Walking dead property.

I've been a big Walking dead fan since before the TV show and have to admit when I first heard of this game I was full of elitist nerd rage toward it. I can't speak for the critics but for myself the Walking dead title only made me more hostile to the game initially. I don't think it's fair to say the Walking dead name is the only reason people are praising this series.
